Holiday Hazards….
Christmas trees, tinsel, wrapping paper, ribbon, and chocolate under the tree….all of these items remind us of the holiday season, but did you know they also pose health hazards to your pets ?
- Christmas trees are fun to climb and to chew. Cats are often the culprits of this extra-curricular activity, but dogs can partake as well. Keep a close eye on your decorations and pets during the holiday season - any missing decorations or unusual behaviours often deserve further investigation
- Tinsel, wrapping paper and ribbon are all fun to play with, but they can pose a serious health risk if eaten. Ribbon and tinsel are the most common items that attract cats (some dogs too) but these items can get stuck in their stomach or intestines and cause a lot of problems. Some common signs are vomiting, decreased appetite, and lethargy - contact your veterinarian immediately if you notice any of these signs or symptoms

- Chocolate is toxic to pets. Any amount of chocolate that is eaten by your pet should be reported to your veterinarian (or the emergency hospital) as soon as possible, this can require hospitalization and further care to prevent complications
